Before I start: YES I MADE A MISTAKE. I KNOW I AM IN THE WRONG. Now I want to make things right and exit Canada legally.
I am a from India. I came to Canada in 2012 on a student visa. My visa expired on 2014 August. I couldn't apply to restore my status because I failed in my exams and I lost mt student status in Canada. I had a valid work permit till 2014 August which also I couldn't restore. I am still in Canada. Please understand, I couldn't talk about this to anyone because I was very very scared. I assumed I would be arrested and imprisoned for a long time. I had no idea what to do. Only recently have I been researching on ways to restore my status or leave Canada properly. I haven't left the country even once. My family or I didn't have enough money to book my return ticket. I took private tuitions for a very long time and finally saved enough money to buy myself a flight ticket. I know I have overstayed for a very long time. So what should I do now? I haven't been issued a removal or deportation order. My flight is actually less than a month away. I am aware of voluntary compliance, departure orders and deportation orders. I want to be able to exit Canada properly so I can apply for authorization to return to Canada within the required time period.
What am I supposed to do now? Should I go to Canadian border security and appraise them of my situation? Am I supposed to apply for departure order voluntarily? Should I be getting in touch with the Indian embassy instead? Has anybody been in this situation before or know of anyone? Should I be consulting a lawyer? Not sure if I can afford that lawyers charge a high amount for just an hour of consultation. I have my flight ticket to prove that I am leaving Canada in less than 30 days. I have no criminal records in Canada or India. I have never committed a crime or any offence of any degree. Also, I couldn't get a direct flight to India. My flight is via UK. Normally I wouldn't need a VISA to fly through UK, especially since I wont be in UK for more than 12 hours and I'll only be inside the international airport terminal. Also, I have an Indian passport so I should be allowed to board the flight to India. But I don't have a valid Canadian visa. Will that be a problem?
I do want to keep the option of returning to Canada in future. I want to do things properly while exiting Canada this time. Please help me! I am just looking for guidance. I dont know what to do. Any suggestions and any resources will be helpful for me. If any of you can provide me with information, I will be very grateful. Please help me. Thank you!
