Hi

We have a PR which has been expired for past 5 years now and we live outside canada. Due to personal reasons we couldn't meet PR requirements and we have not been able to leave our country too. Now we could like to go back to canada. Do we have to apply afresh or can the expired PR be used to entry canada?

Thanks a lot
DS

In theory, you need to follow this procedure. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/travel.asp

There are loopholes if you are able to make a land crossing over the US/Canada border, or if you are visa-exempt, you can try entering on that basis. However, regardless of your method of entry, you may be reported for non-compliance with the RO. Lots of details on that in this section of the forum, so I'm not repeating it all over again.
