My PR card is set to expire in a couple of months. Do I need a valid PR card for my work in Canada and receive benefits from the government? I am asking because I am not planning on leaving Canada any time soon, and my hope I get my citizenship sometime this year, and my understanding is that I only need a valid PR card if I am planning on leaving Canada so I can enter when I return. Does anyone have more information about this? Thanks in advance

Some provincial governments do require a valid PR card to renew health cards or driver's licenses, but not all, you can look specifically into your province. But no, there is no requirement that you need to have a valid PR card to work or receive benefits. Consider you are a PR, as long as you meet your RO, expired PR card doesn't matter, no matter how long after it expired - your PR status does not expire. A valid PR card is mostly used for international travels.

Thanks for the reply. My health card doesn't expire in 2 years at least, and I don't have a driver's license. Is there anything else where I might need a valid PR card for?
