Experience and Future help

Hello

I am currently a degree student studying Computer Science. As part of my degree I have the opportunity to do an industrial placement year.
I have a few questions about eligibility to immigrate to Canada.
Firstly, Would I need a visa to do my industrial placement year in Canada, if so what visa could I apply under?
Secondly, I have been developing mobile applications for the last few months and I am just wanting to know whether published applications made by me would be classed as experience when applying for a visa?
