Evidence to defer oath?

We received the good news that we are scheduled for the oath. Unfortunately, it is for the same day that I've long been obligated to be the keynote speaker at a conference in another province. Here's my question: How much evidence should I provide? The email saying we must write to request another day simply says to provide a reason. Do they really not want any evidence? Do they want a lot? Not sure what to provide with my letter. (How I wish we could pick our day!)
