Hello,

I am planning to travel to Canada in December and stay for 2 weeks. I am from Vietnam but have migrated to Australia and just got my Australian citizenship recently, I will need to apply for eTA for my traveling.

My concern is whether my visa rejections in the past will cause any issue for granting the eTA. I had applied for a visa to visit Canada few times and got refused each time. The reason because I was married to a Canadian at the time, and I guess the reason was because I couldn't prove that would return to my country of resident after my visa expires.

Now, I am settled in Australia, have a good job, although I don't have any property yet.

Anyone has any experience or knowledge to share?

Thanks in advance.

No issues

Thanks guys. Yes, I have Australian passport now.

One more question. Let's say I am going through immigration and asked where I am going to stay. Should I book a hotel for my stay or it's okay to state that I am staying with my ex. We are not together but remain friends, so both of us are okay that I will be staying at his place while visiting. Will they be sensitive about this and assume that we are in a relationship and that would give me motivation to stay?

I don't know why but I have a feeling that Canada is so much more difficult than Australia. I have no problem with Australian Visa whatsoever but Canada has been giving me a hard time...

Just say you're staying with a friend, no need to specify he's your ex....

and of course having a return ticket will of course help. Plus same advice to anyone do not volunteer information to CBSA only answer questions asked and always honestly. As said saying your ex is now a friend is still being honest, CBSA dont need to know your personal relationship history.

Hi Guys,

I am filling out the eTA application.

following the question "have you every been denied a visa..." which I answered "yes" - the application asks to "Provide as many details as possible to help with processing" - Then there is a box for you to type, but I could pretty much type one sentence. It looks like it has enough space, but I couldn't type any longer. I am wondering if that is a technical issue or that is the limit.

Are you supposed to explain the circumstance of the visa rejection or just to list the visa rejection(s)?

Any experience / insight is much appreciated!

Just a simple phrase will do, e.g. "2015 denied TRV due to financial status"

Okay, I submitted my eTA application. Now they come back and want me to provide:

- Proof of funds: No problem
- Lease agreement or mortgage: I am only renting, I don't have the mortgage.
- Proof of employment: no problem
- Detailed itinerary, this includes proof of purchased return ticket.

Ok, the last requirement is what I am having issue with. I am travelling in December, quite far from now. Also, what is the point of booking a ticket when my eTA hasn't been approved. But I am afraid that once they require, I must provide it.

What should I do?

Thanks.
