I came to Canada to make my claim in August last year and the government accepted my claim but they sent me back home but of a us/Canada border agreement
thing so they gave me my paperwork and then tell me i would have to wait for them to contact me to tell me when to come back to resume my claim. Now i February
i got a email telling me to come back so i bought the cheapest ticket i could afford from my remaining funds for a flight for April 21st and i had to reapply for my eTA
because it got cancelled when i made my claim i paid for it on the 5th of April now and i still haven't been approved yet and my flight is this Thursday.

It's interesting that you ended up back in your home country. Generally speaking, in these circumstances people were being sent back to the US. Can you give us more information about how you ended up back in your home country?

In terms of the eTA, there's unfortunately nothing you can do but wait for it to be approved. If it's not approved in time, you'll need to cancel or postpone your flight.

i was told by the US that i would have to go back home because covid and shelters space

I see. So it was the US who sent you home and not Canada.

I'm not sure what the answer is in that case.

I guess you'll have to wait and hope the eTA is approved.

Good luck.

Just clarifying that the government didn’t accept your claim they just accepted you filing your claim. I’m a bit puzzled that if they accepted your application to apply for asylum how did you get returned to the US? If you come from a visa exempt country it is generally quite difficult to get asylum in Canada. Unfortunately if you claim asylum it is often much more difficult to get an ETA. You’ll need to wait and see what happens. Have you reviewed your case with a Canadian immigration lawyer? Given that you are from a visa exempt country it would give you a better indication of potential approval/refusal.

There is nothing at all strange about this part of the story.

Canada and US had a policy in place during COVID where claims were accepted but the applicant was sent back to the country they crossed from. This policy was in place for well over a year and was only recently removed. So OP crossed from the US to Canada during COVID, made the claim in Canada and was then returned to the US per the temporary policy. This part makes sense.

The unusual part of this story is that the US made the OP return to his/her home country. I have no idea what happens now. Guess it will depend if Canada approves the eTA or not.
