Hello all,
My parents hold a PR status, however, they do not live in Canada anymore. When they left, more than 8 years ago, they did not know that they had to cancel their PR status in Canada. When they were visiting me, they entered as visitors because they did not have the intention to stay in Canada. Now, with the new eTA, things have become more complicated. They tried to apply, but the system has identified them as PRs. To get an eTA they need to renounce their status in Canada. They do plan to come and live here in the future, but not right now.
What options do they have? Do they need to renounce their PRs?
Thanks!
