Hi
As my study permit expired because my passport was expiring too, I renewed my passport and applied for the extension of my study permit within Canada. However it has arrived and I noted that the extended study permit has an an error in my passport number: one digit is missing. I called the immigration and according to the agent my extended permit was never issued...even though I have it and it is valid through to next year. I stressed that I need to ensure they have the right passport number in the system, he told me to submit an IRCC webform , which I did. Given the lack of clarity and confusion and I have 3 questions:
1) Would it be better to completely resubmit my study permit extension or wait for the IRCC correction request to take place?
2)How long in your experience IRCC corrections take?
3) my university is requiring me to submit a renewed permit - not sure the current document is acceptable with an error on it, even though everything else is correct?

Your advice is much appreciated

1. Generally speaking you need to apply for Request to Amend Valid Temporary Resident Documents ... , i don't know how much time IRCC will take to get back to you after you submitted the webform, but they will ask to to complete the above-mentioned application, so you can go ahead and start preparing for submitting the application rather than waiting for their reply.
2. a month as per today's processing times (might get delayed because of COVID).
3. after submitting the above application, you can send them a proof that you applied for the new permit (e.g tracking number of mailing the application, fee receipt of the application, etc. as the case may be).
check this IRCC website for further info: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigratio...alid-temporary-resident-documents.html#gather
