Hi guys, I've not been able to find a specific answer to my question, either through the forum or via the web. I'm a British Citizen living in the UK. I'm married to a Canadian Citizen who is sponsoring me via the Family Class process for permanent residence. My PR Card isn't due to be issued for 6 to 9 months yet. I want to visit my wife in Canada... but... can I go as a tourist? Will I need a Temporary Resident Permit? I have a valid eTA. I'm not sure if I am in ineligible to visit with a PR application in progress, or if I need to show duel intent and apply for a TRP?

1. You can go as a tourist (don't bring all your worldly possessions) as long as you have a valid ETA. As I assume you are not inadmissible for criminality or health, you don't require a TRP.

Hi trinirock: my experience was pretty good to be honest. I planned to leave the UK at the end of April 2018 and move to BC to be with my wife. I'm still waiting for my PR card: that will likely come through sometime this summer. I entered Canada as a visitor with a valid ETA. My wife flew out to the UK to help me sort out the last of my stuff, so we flew into Canada together. On previous visits I've had lots of questions at the border when traveling alone; however, traveling together it was probably the easiest border crossing ever! We were asked the usual questions, gave the honest answers, and here I am in BC. I did have a return flight booked for six months after my planned arrival date; just in case they didn't like a one-way flight with me being a visitor (it didn't cost much extra compared to a one-way flight, so was worth it if I'd had to prove I could leave Canada within the visitor visa six month period). I brought a lot of my personal stuff in suitcases, and sent a few boxes by DHL. I had to go and clear one box of processions with customs/border officials (again, just gave honest answers and all was well). The other boxes I sent just came through with no problem. Just waiting for my PR card to be issued now so I can start looking for work and get my career back on track.

Thank you for sharing your experience! My family and i will be visiting for summer and we all have return tickets ( even both our daughter and I who are Citizen) as well as hotel accommodtion and car rental itinerary for our 2 weeks trip! I really hope it would be enough to convice immigration.

Hi TrailRunner, I'm glad that your experience was good

They didn't ask you for a PRTD- Permanent Resident Travel Document- ??

Because it says on the website that if you are a Permanent Resident and you don't have a PR card you need a PRTD to enter Canada..

But I see that you entered as a Visitor... so did you get your CoPR- Confirmation of Permanent Residency document- ?? And did you do the Landing ? All these things are previous to getting your PR Card, so what your situation would be ?

Thanks for clearing this out as it helps to have the info !
