hi did u get any solution am in same situation
Option 1) You need to update your child's status from visitor to OCI holder just visit your nearest FRRO (Foreigners Regional Registration Office). This should help in ensuring the correct status is reflected in their records.

Option 2) If you encounter any difficulty or are unable to complete the update at the FRRO office as you don't have OCI with you , another option is to convert your child's e-visa into an Entry visa. You can only do it online on FRRO site you will receive it within 48 hours. Make sure it can only be done 15 days prior to the expiration of their current status(time span 180 days). Meanwhile try to get Kids OCI from Canada.

Option 3) Visit your nearest FRRO office.

I was reading your post regarding conversion of E-visa to OCI. Could you please share the process as to how it's done? I'm planning on travelling to India hopefully next month. Before I leave for India I'll be applying OCI and leave it under process and travel to India on E-visa. Once the OCI is granted I'll have it mailed to India. But I need to know how the conversion process is done from E-visa to OCI.
NOTE: This is for minor my newborn as for me I already have an OCI. Kindly share your experience TIA

So you have to register with FRRO
create acount their, fill the form for conversion
Then submit the required documents their fees is 500rs
Then you will get the approval letter next day
Or if you staying less than 180 days then you don’t need to register it.
you can travel next time with OCI to get it register

So you were able to change the status from E-visa to OCI or did you have to switch to entry visa first and then from Entry visa to OCI? Also what documents did they asked you to submit?

Is it all online or do we need to visit FRRO office to do that?

Can this process vary from city to city? My father-in-law went to the FRRO office in Bangalore to get information about changing e-visa to entry visa and they asked to fill out an application online, bring it IN PERSON to the FRRO office and then wait for 40 days for processing.

Hi, I believe I’m in a very similar situation as you.

My infant son entered India on an e‑Visa along with my wife (an OCI cardholder) in October 2025. He has been staying in Patna, Bihar since then. His OCI application—submitted through BLS International in Canada—has been approved, and I’ve received his OCI card by post here in Toronto. I will be travelling to India in March 2026 with his OCI card, which is still within 180 days of his original entry into India.

My question is: Can my child stay beyond 180 days and then exit India around the end of May 2026 using his OCI card and passport, even though he originally entered on an e‑Visa?

From your earlier reply, it seems you applied for conversion from e-VISA to OCI through the e‑FRRO portal. If you don’t mind sharing, which FRRO did you contact and what service did you apply for?

I’m asking because every FRRO seems to have a different interpretation. I contacted three different FRROs over phone and received three different answers:

  • Mumbai FRRO advised completing a Registration for the baby (even if it is normally not required for child under 12 to register) through the e-FRRO portal, along with a declaration about the OCI issuance, plus documents: both parents’ passports and OCIs, marriage certificate, and the baby’s passport, OCI, e‑Visa, birth certificate, and Form C.
  • Kolkata FRRO said nothing is required because their UCS system already reflects the OCI issuance. They added that, for peace of mind, we may apply for an Exit Permit before travel.
  • Lucknow FRRO did not provide a clear answer.
I also asked a friend to check with immigration officials at Delhi Airport during his travel yesterday. One officer said nothing is required. Another said an Exit Permit is needed because the baby entered on an e‑Visa and would be staying beyond 180 days even if he has got OCI.

At this point, I’m unsure which path to follow. Kindly suggest.
