Hi everyone!

I received a POE letter of introduction for a working holiday visa in April. I booked a trip to Canada for July before I received the IEC visa. I am only staying 2 1/2 weeks in July and go back to Germany afterwards. I am planning to come back to Canada at the end of the year to start working. Can I enter as a tourist in July and activate the IEC visa later? Do I have to show the letter at the border in July and explain this to them? Or do I just enter as a tourist without mentioning the letter? I received a eTA number through the IEC visa. Is that connected to the IEC visa?

Thank you for your help :)!

assuming you have German passport therefore visa exempt just land in July as a tourist, you dont need ETA anyway until Sept 29 th. You may get asked about IEC but if so just say you will activate later in year but for sure do not offer up your POE letter in July in case any misunderstanding about activating.

The ETA is linked to your passport not the IEC and would have just been created at same time.

People do this all the time so should be no issue at all landing as a visitor for a while then coming back later. In fact some people land as visitor then a while later go to the land border with US and activate their IEC permit.

Yes I have a German passport...
Awesome! That answers all my questions. Thank you for your help!
