Dear All,

This is with reference to the Referral Letter which I have to obtain from my Senior colleague since the Company will not give the experience Certificate .
One of my Manager is ready to give me a Referral letter but he is afraid to put his Designation and name of the Company along with his name and the name of the Company along with my name. He is worried whether the Canadian Embassy/ Canadian Immigration Department will call the Companies HR Department to verify not only the Applicant detail but also the person giving the Referral. Please let me know the following:

1. Whether the Canadian Embassy or the Immigration Department will call the HR department to verify?
2. Is it necessary to put the name of the Company next to both our names?
3. Is it necessary that the referring person should be in the same department? Can he belong to any other department and how senior should the referring person be?
4. Is it possible to give a self declaration if no one is ready to give a Referral Letter.
If yes, how should I declare. Is there any format for that?

Awaiting reply
Regards
:)

1. Whether the Canadian Embassy or the Immigration Department will call the HR department to verify? Maybe. Maybe not.
2. Is it necessary to put the name of the Company next to both our names? Absolutely.
3. Is it necessary that the referring person should be in the same department? Not necessarily but recommended.

Can he belong to any other department and how senior should the referring person be? Does not matter how senior but should be directly or indirectly associated with your work or department within the company to be able to vouch for you. I cannot get the Manager from a Call Center department to vouch for my duties in financial auditing.

4. Is it possible to give a self declaration if no one is ready to give a Referral Letter. Yes. Not recommended. Least effective.
If yes, how should I declare. Is there any format for that? Search in the forum. Has been provided multiple times.

Companies and line managers that do not give their bona fide employees detailed reference letters should be banned from operating. It's not as if the poor fellow is asking you to commit a fraud. Simply write the bloody truth about the employee and his employment and get on with it. How can that hurt anyone? bloody third world hypocrites. You can't talk sense with such people. Why would any company have a POLICY not to give reference letters unless they are hiding something (minimum wages, tax issues etc.).
