information is on US travel website. If he has a US visitor visa then no. If he is Canadian then no. May have to change flights.

Yes, he needs a US visa to transit through the US assuming he is coming as a visitor.

If he doesn't already hold an approved visa, you'll need to book another flight without a transit stop in the US. There is zero chance of getting a US visa approved within the next 5 days.

Does't matter if its a transit or long layover, you always need a visa to enter the US, even if its a transit you have to go through US immigration, so to answer your question you need a US visa to pass via USA(even if its a transit) .....Now if he is travelling from India and don't have one, its better to get a direct flight
