Job Offer........
Pre-Assessed..
Hi all,

does anyone know any information on employment insurance.

Are PRs eligible for it, if they are unemployed.
After how many days from landing and obtaining SIN, will these start. Do we have to work for a stipulated time to "gather insurance"?
What is the CAD $ amount for a family of 3.. Does it depend on past earnings?

Well, I am hopeful that I can secure a job in the first few weeks, of course, but still would like to keep myself informed.

EDIT: Some of the answers are available in the link here, but I would still like if someone with personal experience reply to my questions above: http://www.servicecanada.gc.ca/eng/ei/types/regular.shtml#eligible

You have to actually work in Canada before you can qualify for employment insurance (EI). You need to accumulate 420 to 700 hours of work in Canada that meets employment insurance requirements before you qualify for EI if you lose your job.

In other words, you cannot simply arrive in Canada as a new immigrant and apply for EI. It doesn't work that way.

Make sure you bring enough funds with you to Canada to support your family for at least six months in the event you can't find a job right away. You won't be able to rely on EI.
