Hello everyone,

My PGWP is expiring in two days and I am changing my status to visitor, and I have been working fill time the past ten months and paying for the employment insurance.

My question is, after I stop working, am I eligible to apply for the employment insurance or no?

Thanks.

Unfortunately you won't qualify.

To qualify, you must either be holding a valid work permit or have implied status based on a work permit extension.

Visitors do not qualify for EI.

As above, but one of the conditions on receiving EI is that you’re able & willing to work.
Being on visitor status , you aren’t

Hey, are you sure that on implied status, can we apply for EI despite our SIN expires? Thanks @scylla
