Employment Insurance benefits for Permanent Residence sponsored by Common Law

Can I apply for Employment Insurance benefits if I worked one year after I got my Permanent Residence CArd?
I did Commom Law Sponsorship?

My Common LAw partners says I can not? if he would have to pay? is that right ... I can not find anything written?!

Can I only get benefits if I am a citizen ? and what if I get unemployed .... if I never become a citizen.

thanks!
I might loose my job :((((((((((((((((((

EI does not count as social assistance, you can receive EI benefits and it will have no impact on your PR or sponsorship.

I'm not sure if or where this is explicitly stated on the CIC website, but it is common knowledge here on the forum.

The Sponsor has to pay back any Welfare (social assistance) claims the PA may make in the first 3 years, no where in the Sponsorship Agreement (im1344) does it mention EI, just social assistance of which EI is not considered that as you have to work and pay in so many hours before you are eligible.
