My W/V expired but we had already sent for a renewal in December

Hopefully you receive your WP soon; you can stay in Canada for the validity of the new WP. For now you are on implied status if you sent your new WP application before the old one expired. You can apply for the PR/OWP if you've finished the 24 months. You can look for another employer and let the new employer apply for LMO in your favour, then apply for new WP.
