Eligibilty for Canadian Passport

Dear Friends,

I have an Important question that might be useful for 100s of us. I received my PR in 2011. If I spend 2 years outside Canada then I have to be IN Canada for 365X3 days to be eligible for the Canadian passport.
What If I have to go out side Canada for a few days and I do not complete 365 X 3 days with in Canada on this PR, I know that my PR will be renewed but will my counter of 365 x 3 days will restart with the new PR or the days that I lived in the Canada on my 1st PR will be counted???

I have not read any policy like this but my friend insists that it is the policy that if on your 1st PR you dont complete 3 years in Canada and you get a new PR then you will have to spend 3 continuous years in Canada to get the passport. So it might take you MORE THAN 5 years just to be eligible for the passport.

Your friend is wrong and doesn't understand citizenship rules.

You can apply for citizenship at ANY time after becoming a PR if in the previous four years, you spent at least 1095 days (three years) physically in Canada.

Also, note that you can't apply for a passport until you actually have citizenship. The first step is to qualify for citizenship and apply. Once you have taken the test, been approved for citizenship and taken the oath - you can apply for a passport.

If I spend 1000 days out of 1095 (Say) and for any reason I have to spend these 95 days out of the country, then these 95 days can be completed with the new RP that will be renewed and I do not have to start the counter of 3 years again.

Please coorect me if I am wrong

Yes - that's right. You don't have to start the counter of 3 years again.
