I am a new PR and interested in doing a short-term course of 3 months with fees of around 9K CAD. I have the money to pay for all of it but would like to pay 2K and take 7K as a loan (I believe that there are good and bad things to take out a loan for and education is one of the good things). Does anyone know if I can get a loan or a line of credit as a new immigrant? I have a bank account at Scotia so if anyone has specific information, will be much appreciated.

Sorry to say but maybe ask the bank , not very helpful I know but only the bank can say whether they will loan you any money. Obviously people may be able to share their experience which is probably what you are asking but every case will be different whether new immigrant or not starting of course with employment propects to pay it back.

$9000 for a 3 month short-term course with a loan (if you get one)?! Please be sure that course will actually add value to your resume - make you more employable. Otherwise, like Bs65 said, you're better of going to the bank.

Its a web development course with guaranteed job support. I already have a technical background and I am doing it to learn more and build a professional network in Canada (which I don't have). Anyways I talked to Scotia bank and they are willing to provide a secured loan (but not sure if it is the greatest idea to put the deposit as security and also to pay interest on top of that. Also won't have access to locked funds till the loan is paid in full.) Anyone know any other bank or avenues for getting a loan/line of credit for new immigrants?
