I got bachelor diploma in software engineering and I plan to study 2 years more in my speciality to get master's degree and simultaneously 2 years on another department to get bachelor's degree in interpretation. Last year I got a full-time job. In university was granted free attendance(although officially I study in full-time, not correspondently) and I visit classes rarely, usually come only to tests and exams. In two years I will have got master's degree in software engineering, bachelor's degree in interpretation and 3 years of full-time work experience. After I graduate from university I will start immigration process.

The best situation for me is that I obtain 25 points for education (11 years in school + 6 years in university) and 19 points for work experience. However, I may receive no points for work experience or less points for education if overlapping is not allowed. The question is, how the points would be calculated?

Best regards, Boris

Hi

Overlapping is not any criteria for IO to check the file. If you have paid full time or equivalent part time work exp i.e 1950 hrs is one year, and you have completed studies with the hrs criteria as well (I do not remember the hrs per week) then you will get points for both.

If you can show that your job was full time like 37.5 hours per week paid job and your studies were also full time or full time equivalent like 15 hours per week then it could be accepted.

let see other senior comments..

6.3 Education
• “Educational credential” is defined in R73 as any diploma, degree or trade or apprenticeship
credential issued on the completion of a program of study or training at an educational or
training institution recognized by the authorities responsible for registering, accrediting,
supervising and regulating such institutions in the country of issue.
• “Full-time” is defined in R78(1) as requiring at least 15 hours of instruction per week during
the academic year, including any period of training in the workplace that forms part of the
course of instruction.
• “Full-time equivalent” means, in respect of part-time or accelerated studies, the period of time
that would have been required to complete those studies on a full-time basis.

Work Exp

have one year of continuous full-time (or equivalent part-time) paid work experience in the last
ten years in one or more of the occupations listed at the following website:
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/apply-who-instructions.asp.

So if you can prove, you will get the points.

If you got a paid Full Time job that wasn't a Co-op, Internship or related to your education. I don't think it will matter. As long as you can prove it, they will sure grant you the points.

Regards.
