Dear All forum members.

I would prefer to share little success story of networking & benefits of active communication & sharing among this group.

I got a lots of benefits from this forum when I started my application for PR of Canada.

I am in Edmonton since 2 years.

I am having technical sales background back home & here in Canada also I started in retail sales. Then gradually moved to banking sector.

Canada is land of opportunity where you can change your career path with proper guidance & advice.

Me & Ameer Ali first got connected thru this forum. We both met first time & shared lots of important information about each others.

We both met 3/4 times [ City Center Mall], Ameer advised me to think on Career in insurance sector. He shared lots of important information about this industry career progress in long term. It seems to me very promising & I decided to prepare for Exam to get License for first step in this industry.

Ameer helped me a lot in getting study materials & exam questions on it.

With Grace of God & advice from Ameer, I successfully passed General Level-1 Insurance Exam & now ready to start my new career in it.
I would like to tell all new immigrant as well as existing members who came recently & planning to land in Canada.
Success in Canada will be easier if you learn art networking with professionals & other members.

Do not hesitate to ask.

Hope this example will help other fellow members to understand value of networking.

Thanks
Mayank

I am looking forward to volunteer for any organization working for settlement of new immigrants, refuges and homeless peoples.

So far I got initial replies from Edmonton Mannonite Centre and YMCA at Down town.

It is time to come out of our comfort zone and learn new ideas and cultural diversity.

Any one if interested, join :) :)

Hi all

I'm planning for landing at Edmonton next year May. My main objective is to get a diploma from NAIT. I'm a technical person having degree in electronics. I heard that after getting degree from NAIT, getting a job is easy in Alberta.

I'm lookin for some advice.

@nqr72, are you currently working as an engineer or as a technician? Most of the programs at NAIT are geared towards folks who are going after their red-seal/journeyman status as operators/technicians/skilled trades etc. These programs are in extremely high demand, and as such admission can be fiercely competitive.

There is limited demand for skilled trades at the moment due to Alberta taking a real beating in recent months because of falling oil prices. Many major players (Shell, Suncor, Syncrude) have announced cutbacks in investments and layoffs and some major projects are in a holding pattern. This has led to similar issues in associated industry and service providers.

May is a bit far away, but please do your due diligence before making a permanent move or have a robust Plan B.

If you are an engineer, and want to work as an engineer in Canada, there is a whole another issue with getting your EIT/P.Eng process up and running.

Regards

Thanks for your advice. I'm working as a service engineer in medical equipment field. But I believe in first world they consider it as service technician. I did my university graduation in electronics. I want to take a advance diploma in biomedical engineering from NAIT.

As far as I know there is comparately low demand for Biomedical engineers, may be i am wrong, my Cousin he was Bio Medical engineer from back home did his B.Tech from NAIT in Bio medical engineering but prospect of getting job is comparately lower. But not bad. You can research before doing any course.

Good Luck on future endavours.
