Hi everyone,

I would like to know if I am choosing the right NOC. My tittle is assistant front store manager which initally made me think my level was 0, but my duties fall on skill level B in my opinion.

Here is NOC 0621 (retail management)
http://www5.hrsdc.gc.ca/noc/english/noc/2011/Profile.aspx?val=0&val1=0621

Here is NOC 6221 (retail supervisor)
http://www5.hrsdc.gc.ca/noc/english/noc/2011/Profile.aspx?val=6&val1=6211

I am choosing 6221 and my duties are below.

• Work with Front Store Manager to maintain balanced inventory.
• Work with Front Store Manager to ensure pricing of merchandise is correct.
• Assist in achieving projected sales growth and productivity targets.
• Ensure Loss Prevention systems and procedures are performed according to established guidelines.
• Planning and preparation for Inventory Management.
• Identify overstock and develop a clearance strategy if needed.
• To assist the Front Store Manager in ensuring that exceptional customer service in front store and cosmetics is provided beyond expectation, as outlined in operational procedures guidelines.
• Ensure employees present proper image to the public in accordance with policy (i.e clean appearance, approved uniform, name badge).
• Address inquiries (i.e. location of product, rain checks, returns) and resolve customer complaints according to guidelines.
• Work with Front Store Manager to ensure signage in the store reflects current programs, policies and procedures.
• Able to order stock in absence of Front Store Manager.
• Assign and delegate duties to employees based on current needs.
• Perform cashier duties when short of staff or covering for an employee's lunch break.
• Assist in the hiring process and make recommendation to the Front Store Manager as required.
• Ensure staff is properly trained in all aspects of their role and provides on-going coaching and
instructions.
• Assist Front Store Manager in performance management, including performance reviews and progressive discipline.
• Ensure employees comply with all policies and procedures.
• Comply with provincial employment legislation.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support (company name)

Is 6211 a good match?

Thanks in advance.

Two comments - your list of duties is long, you'll want to put your MAIN duties at the top - which should include all the supervisory duties (managing other people).

I think either NOC would be OK. I have seen people "downgrade" their NOC (from O to B) and get in trouble because a Visa Officer thinks they did it because their IELTS score wasn't good enough for Skill Level O. If your IELTS score is good enough for skill level O, then you can probably chose either one without a problem.

If in doubt, submit the job description HRSDC and get them to tell you the correct code.

Thanks for the reply.

Two reasons for me choosing skill b.

My salary is 14.42 and the average on my region for that position is $18 so I am well under the average.

According to the NOC website, my duties have a better match with 6211 (all of them) and I dont have all the ones for 0621, have a few missing.

As the list being long, it was twice as much longer so I listed less.

My IELTS score was 7.5 average, higher score was 8.5 and lower 6.5.

So would you advise me to make the list of duties shorter?

Thanks

Sounds reasonable to me, but if you want to be sure, consult with HRSDC.

My IELTS score was 7.5 average, higher score was 8.5 and lower 6.5.

I didn't have to take it and I can't tell you what those scores mean.

So would you advise me to make the list of duties shorter?

Well, you can probably collapse a couple of lines into one, etc - again, it's supposed to be MAIN duties, and either supervisor or manager means supervising/managing people, and that should be at the top of the list, to distinguish you from any other store clerk.

I got the new list now, the thing about it is that the duties from 6211 are very similar to 6314 too so I gotta make sure I am not short in duties listed in my letter.

You should have seen the list of duties that the recruitment specialist from our company sent me for my current position, they are 30+ !!!!

Sent an email to HRSDC so will see what they answer.

Thanks for the info.
