I'm not sure if I'm doing my application correctly, it would be great to get some opinions and hopefully it will help other people in my position as well. I've done quite a bit of research but still I'm not 100% sure on everything.
I have an ITA for the FSW stream of PR Visas. I got enough points without a job offer and so haven't listed my job offer, however I have subsequently received a job offer in Vancouver which starts in July. They are in the process of getting the LMIA and then I will apply for the work permit as well so that I can start working earlier (since the PR takes 6 months).
What I'm wondering is:
- Do I have to make 2 separate applications, one for PR and one for the work permit?
- Is it fine that I have not listed the job offer on my PR? I didn't want my PR to be dependent on the job.
- Since I'm applying for PR I obviously intend to stay there permanently, however when I apply for the work permit, should I say that it is temporary and > 6 months?
- I am currently a visitor in Canada, we just wanted to see what it's like here before actually moving. Can I apply from here and stay on here? and is that quicker?
- If I do leave, when I come back with my work permit, is it fine that my PR application will be processed outside the country and will I have to leave and come back to "land"?
Secondly, my common law partner will be coming with me. He is listed as my common law partner on my PR Visa. He has a remote job outside of Canada (non Canadian employer) that he wants to continue doing whilst in Canada. He's from the Netherlands so a visa exempt country.
- Would he need a work permit for that? What kind of visa can he get? It seems to me that he could potentially get an open work permit?
- Can I apply for his visa at the same time as mine, or only after I've got mine? or only after I have landed and started my job here?
- Is there any way that he can come here with me (and carry on working) when I come to start my job or will he have to wait for his own visa?
Any advice on these issues would be really helpful.
