Dual Citizenship Issues on Marriage Certificate

Hi there,

I am a neutralized Canadian. however i still keep my Chinese passport (never applied for a Chinese Visa). I met my wife in China 3 years ago, i recently went to China and married her. Since i entered China with my Chinese passport, I used my Chinese identity to registered our Marriage, therefore, on my Marriage Certificate, it shows my nationality as Chinese. Does it matter when i sponsor my wife to Canada ? do i need to prove that the person on the marriage certificate is actual me ?

Are you trying to say you are a "naturalized" Canadian?

Since the marriage certificate is in Chinese, normally, you would have to get a notary public in Canada to authenticate the document and translate it into English or French.

Btw, do you use your Canadian passport to return to Canada directly from China?

Yes I became Canadian in 2023. I use passport to enter China and exit China. but when i entered Canada, I used Canadian Passport. China does not recognize dual citizenship, so I did not tell China I hold Canadian passport.

Did you mean i should get the notarized Marriage certificate? I did the notarization in China as she is the principal applicant. I know Canada allows dual citizenship. i wonder if it would be a problem my nationality on the marriage certificate is Chinese, but i sponsor my wife as a Canadian.

Canada doesn't care if you have another citizenship, and won't be an issue as long as the boilerplate data (name/dob etc) match.

Yes I mean you get the marriage certificate notarized. But get one in Canada.

yes the DOB and name are the same. Should I point it out or just let it be ?

They didnt ask, because i they didnt know i have canadian citizenship. And I entered via the e-gate, i just need to scan my passport. So basically i am keeping dual citizenship secretly
