My mother was born in the states her parents are canadian..she applied for proof of citizenship and got it..its says "effective since" then her birth date so supposedly she was a citizen when I was born (1991) am I a citizen too? Already applied just curious what y'all have to say (I am dating a Canadian and am nervous about my citizenship status)

Most likely not. Since she was born outside Canada she is first generation and if you were born outside you are the second generation born outside.

1. Your mother has asked for her citizenship proof after you were born (and most likely after 2009)
2. I am only assuming, but most likely your mother was born after 1947
3. Assumption again but most likely your grand parents were not on a Canadian mission in USA when your mother was born.

But then again check if you do not fall under any of those exceptions that are there.

As I might be wrong there. Check carefully what does apply to you.
