I have dropped out of my whole program today as I have a personal situation at home in India.
I won’t be returning back and studying again in Canada.
How long can I stay here and work, as I have to give atleast 2 weeks notice to my employer here in BC.

Assuming you're on a study permit - you would need to cease employment and leave Canada reasonably quickly upon finalizing termination of your studies. You'll be fine to serve your notice and go home.

If you've dropped out of school, you are supposed to stop working immediately. There is no law requiring you to give 2 weeks notice to your employer in BC. You should stop working immediately and let your employer know you are no longer entitled to legally work in Canada.

You should ideally leave within 30 days of stopping your program.

I personally disagree with scylla. I'm not aware of anything that says stop immediately? That being said if you're to time the end of your studies with your last day of employment and then leave Canada immediately after that would be ideal.

A condition of being allowed to work while on a study permit is that you are attending school full time. Once you have dropped out of school, you are no longer entitled to work.

If you explain to your employer that you are no longer allowed to work legally in Canada, I'm sure they will understand.

Thank you for all the replies. I spoke to my employer and she is finding it hard to find someone in my place immediately. It is a loss for her business. In such circumstances what should I do? I am willing to stop and return immediately. But there is nothing on the internet too that says it. Hypothetically what happens to those students who want to switch courses and they drop out of one course?

If you drop out, you are no longer meeting the eligibility requirements as stated in the link below:

Hence, you are no longer allowed to work.

But that's just my understanding as a non-immigration lawyer.

Why do you care? Are you living for your employer? If you need to go back to India, then go. Everybody is replaceable dude, and as others have pointed out you technically need to stop working as soon as you stop studying. If you apply for PR later this will look very bad for you.

If you never plan to return to Canada again in the future, then I guess you may not care at all.

I am confused at OP. Dropping out of an international degree is an absolutely crazy decision, not only because of the money but it will likely make the path to PR very hard if not impossible, so if you do it it has to be under extraordinary circumstances. How are you even contemplating needing to serve out a "notice period" when you've already pulled the trigger due to extreme circumstances? I would think you'd take a flight next day if it was a situation that urgent.

What is the emergency exactly?

If you plan to never return/apply for PR to Canada, then tbh I don't think anyone is going to notice if you work a bit longer. I'm not encouraging you do that, but it's your choice. Ideally you should have timed your dropout with your resignation since you seem to (unnecessarily) care so much about it.

Lmao Canada is a 'at-will' employment country. No one can force you to work, you are also not a seasonal worker. Sounds like you are being exploited by some South Asian immigrant manager who has guilt-tripped you. I may be wrong but I see this all the time
