Hi,

I did my soft landing in Alberta in Nov 2022, will be travelling back next month for around 1 month before i move permanently by Sep.

I wanted to check is it possible to drive in Alberta with my IDP as a PR holder as i do not intend to apply license until i move permanently.

I tried getting answer from Registry, but got 2 different answer -

One told that i can drive for 1 year after becoming PR, Other told i have to apply for license within 3 months of my first landing not sure which one is correct. Does anyone have experience regarding this.

From what I was told it is max one year after becoming PR.

But I'd say the sooner you can take care of it and get a proper license the better, I'm sure that would solve more problems if you happen to be pulled over than trying to explain why you have another country's license despite being a PR.

In addition I was told that Canada does not allow someone to have multiple physical licenses, I had to turn in my original country's license for destruction when I was issued the Canadian (I still have the license in the other country's registry though, just not a physical card).
