Driving in Nova Scotia

I have a UK full licence and have been told I cannot get a Canadian licence while I'm in the immigration process or hold my own insurance on my car..... is this correct? This is for Nova Scotia. Many thanks.

As a tourist you can drive with your UK license.. But you cannot convert it into a NS license unless you have a status here.

Usually there is a time limit on how long a visitor can drive with some home license. It's better to check for Nova Scotia specific rule.
For BC, it's up to 6 months.
