I have got LOA from Lethbrdige college, Alberta for 2 yr full time Computer Technology diploma and will be applying for visa in another 2 weeks, if I get visa by God's grace am I eligible for 3 yr work permit after completion of my course... Please help me, as mine is diploma I am lil worried and please tell me will I be able to apply for work permit.

Dont panic, Canada is a diploma based country, infact majority go there for doing diploma and its valid there so u can even get job based on it. If u want to continue ur education u can transfer ur diploma credits and complete ur bachelors.

Ohh thnx a ton.... So, I am eligible to apply for 3 yrs work permit.... Thnx a loadsss.. I was really worried about this...

Read this page and pay attention to how long a work permit you can apply for after your graduation. If you think it's three years, you are setting yourself up for a disappointment.

And pay attention to which schools are elligable for this as well. Not all students qualify as they have chosen to study at the wrong school.

You might pass out when you find out that a 2 year diploma is not going to give you a three year PGWP.

If you graduate (not pass out) with good grades, that is great. ;-)

Hi itstime,

Can you please clear your points... you mean after completion of a 2 yr diploma, im not eligible for work permit... please explain... According to CIC, if we fall under list of designated colleges and if we have completed 2 yr course then we are eligible... please correct me if i am wrong...

Read the page again.

A work permit under the PGWPP may be issued for the length of the study program, up to a maximum of three years. A post-graduation work permit cannot be valid for longer than the student's study program, and the study program must be a minimum of eight months in length. For example, if you graduate from a four-year degree program, you could be eligible for a three-year work permit if you meet the criteria. If you graduate from an eight-month certificate program, you would be eligible for a work permit that is valid for no more than eight months.

There is a lot of "may be" and "could be" which means that none of us have a right to receive the PGWP but those of us who are elligable can apply. No guarantee we will get it though.

Also, your program is two years. IF you get a PGWP you only get it for maximum two years. Not three.

Exactly. Focus on studies now and graduate with top marks. Finding work won't be so hard, no matter where you are. The rest comes later and by then, rules can have changed.
