Re: DOs and DONTs for international student - MBA - coming to Canada fall 2013

There are plenty brother... now don't know which place you are going to...and i think not really in a mood to write all the things at the moment. anyway let me give it a try,

1. mobile connections here aren't for free and one must get the connection at the earliest even to commute here as it helps you in navigation such as bus routes, time of bus arrival, which bus number to catch from where to catch etc. wind/fido are good to go... however, if you are bringing your phone here, wind has got a different frequency it works on... i mean the signalling stuff... so you can check that online...better google it...

2. if you are from Asia, then better don't bother much about your winter wear as it will not be good enough... winters are bone chilling here...though don't worry as long as you are in the house, hotel, room, bus, you won't feel it.

3. bring few items for sure no matter where you gonna live, hostel, hotel, shared room or wahtever... bed sheets, cushion covers,... rest don't worry about things much as you can have all from near by stores... like dollar shop and factory seconds....

4. whichever place you gonna land in, try to check your accommodation in advance... so once you are here, you can simply visit 3 to 4 shortlisted options and finanlize...

i guess can't write any further... call me if you need any further help... you can reach me on + 1 6 4 7 7 0 1 8 6 6 0

How many days before we should come to Canada before the the course begins?

I mean how long is good enough to make all necessary arrangements and get into the lifestyle

i will reach to windsor i guess a week ago before the class starts...

but, i think two-weeks is pretty good..

a week is good to go... coz two weeks will mean you got to have accomdation here... now with your respective college/uni... most of the colleges offer free home stay and airport pickups for at least 3 to 4 days which is enough for you to decide on apartment or home u wana move in...apartments are for lease usually and you can have a room with just two months rent... which is called first and last here... and basis the location where u are, like windsor, u can get a room for 300 to 400 sharing on first or second floor... (here ground floor is first floor)... and basement for 200 to 250.... so i would say moving a week ahead is good enough... but do keep some options selected already before you land here...

Cheers!

thanks ... grateful for the tips..

any further tips?

well, you can also hook up with students from india, pakistan or other countries going to same place same college...and you all can have private arrangemtn for living... i mean perhaps an apartment... apartment according to me is the best option, however it comes with 1 year lease and that's what the only problem is... you can have 2 bedroom apartment from 1000 to 1200 CAD$ which can be shared by three... so around 400 per person...pretty good deal... try this website...

http://toronto.kijiji.ca/

Cheers!

thanks a lot...

i saw some ads for individual room in a house of any person.... rent ranging 250-400 ... what's the problems with that?

would valuable input is much appreciated.

well as long as you are okay living with 6 to 8 people in one house and share the same bathroom, kitchen and refrigerator ... then yes its not a problem at all... coz majority of students do the same! I only expressed my opinion. Apartment will cost you the same around 1000 to 1100 CAD$ for 2 BHK which can be shared by only two or three people coming to per person as 320 to 350. But only three people (whom you know, such as your college buddies, so that u can study togethr too!)...maintaining kitchen and bathroom and everything else in the house becomes easy and less distubrabnce.
