Hi,
I'm from America and my girlfriend is from Canada, we've been together for 3 years. We obviously have visited back and forth through out the years but recently in the past 6 months it has been more frequent. We are now looking to live together and have no idea to go upon doing it. We've called calling centers, went on all the websites and went into a CIC office in Buffalo, NY. This was all within the past week, and we're still confused.
As of right now I am staying in Canada and would love to stay here permanently but obviously past 6 months it becomes illegal,I've only been here for about a month so before anything gets illegal I would like to get something more permanent in order. Our future goal is to live together and after a year of being common law, she's going to sponsor me (If all goes well).
SO my question/concern is, You can stay LEGALLY in Canada for 6 months, but what do I do for the other 6 months that is required in order for us to be common law. I've heard various things from various CIC Agents, International Youth Program, although that seems slim to none chance wise, getting a job offer in Canada and applying for a work permit, although that seems difficult as well, but doable. Or just simply cohabiting together, but not being able to work which is a HUGE thing, I need to support us.
What is the easiest, fastest way to stay for the year that I need to live with her to be common law and work as well, any information is GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks.
