Hello forum,

I'm a Master's student from Germany doing my Thesis at the Queen's University and unfortunately found out, that I won't get any salary. I thought of looking for a part-time job besides - like in a bar sometimes or so. Well, depending on the offer there.

Of course I can't tell so far, where and IF I am going to work, at all.

What do I have to consider for this "plan" ? Do I need extra documents and forms to fill out after arriving?

Thanks for help,
Daniel

I think what PHd candidates get is not called salary, but is known as either stipend or research assistantship. Are u sure u have contacted the right people in the university? coz if ur good enough u should get these.

In case ur absolutely getting no help from the univ, before u do any kind of job please make sure u get the off campus work permit.

As for specific ideas, people who been there and done that can advise you.

Note that you can only work on campus for the first six months after you start your studies (i.e. during the first six months, you can only take a job that is on the university grounds). After you have completed six months of your studies, you will be able to apply for an off-campus work permit.

Thanks for the response!

The point is, I won't be enrolled there, but will still be at my home university. I finished all lectures and the only thing left is the thsis, this is why I will only "work" for the deparment, without taking part of usual studies. This is also the reason I don't get any financial support and also can't earn money by being a tutor (which is reserved only for enrolled students there).

So far I'm applying for a "normal" work permit.

What rules do apply for me in this case, as I can't be a tutor for instance. Are there other possibilities?
