Hi everyone,

I am planning to submit my CEC application in July 2011. And, my open work permit is only valid till Jan 31, 2012.

My question is: Do I have to remain on a work permit while waiting for my PR under CEC category? According to CIC, the processing time is 10 months. 10 months from Aug 1, 2011 will be May 31, 2012. But my work permit is expire on Jan 31, 2011. ( I will not work once my permit expired)

another question: Is it ok for me to leave the country for couple months after submit the application? I will be back once I receive letter from CIC.

Thanks for helping !!!

You only need to fulfil either 2 years work or 2 yrs. studies + 1 yr. work. You can even apply under CEC after you leave Canada and all your permits have expired so you may leave for 2-3 months after applying and you may go home after your work permit expires or you could apply to change your status to visitor if you want to wait it out in Canada. Just make sure to check your messages and have somebody check your mail if you are going to be away because they may try to contact you about something.

No

Yes - but if you do, as Leon says, make sure you give them (a) a stable email address, (b) ensure that someone you trus will receive your mail.

Hi, Leon

Thank you for the reply. I feel much better to follow through my plan. Please let me go through my plan again with you and see if it's 100% safe to do so.

Plan as follow:
I am submitting my CEC application in July, 2011. After submitting, I will leave Canada and go back to home town until I receive my PR. Of course during the processing time, I will have someone in Calgary Canada to check my letter and update me if CIC needs to contact me..etc. I do NOT need to be in Canada on a work permit during the processing time. Am I correct?

Thanks again for all the help.

Nico. :)

Yes, correct.

Nico - the only caveat being - those are the rules at this moment. CIC could change the rules any time, so be sure that you stay up-to-date on the program and check back here before you submit your application...

If you're just visiting, no. If you're leaving Canada, you should submit your change of address:
