Hi all,

I’m in Canada and my parents are Syrian in Saudi (moved there because of war and devastation of their house) and are currently under some sponsorship (they don’t have permanent residence).

I want them to register as unhcr refugees so that I can then work on sponsoring them and bringing them to Canada, meanwhile they plan to apply for other travel visas for medical checkup.

If they register as UNHCR refugees in Saudi, will that in any way affect their visa applications to other countries (do embassies access some kind of UNHCR refugee database to cross check?) or will their applications be treated normally?

You can’t register in Saudi with the UNHCR. If you are attempting to apply for a supervisa for your parents unfortunately they will be refused. They don’t have permanent status in Saudi and it would be very likely that they’d file for asylum as soon as they entered Canada.
