I am a permanent resident. I visited the U.S.A. for 5 weeks.

Does this period of time count against the required time needed to attain citizenship?

You cannot count those days.

Since Canada is not the USA and vice versa why would you expect physical presence days in one to equate to the other? I'm curious as to your line of reasoning for this. There are exceptions to the 'physical presence' if serving in the public service of Canada or the Armed Forces - was your visit if this nature?
