I'm sponsoring my wife (outland), no co-signer, representative or anything, just me and my wife.

I was going through the Sponsor checklist, and I just want to make sure I'm not overlooking anything.

Do I not need to send a copy of our marriage certificate anywhere?

I know she does as part of her supporting documents, but not for me?

The applicant will be the only one to send a copy of the marriage certificate.. no need for the sponsor :)

Thank you! :)

Do you know which documents for me (the sponsor) and the applicant need to be notarized, and which can be plain photocopies?

I believe the need to notarize depends on the country of origin for the applicant. It will specify in the country-specific instructions

(http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/fc.asp - information guides)

I took a look through the Middle East one - we're based in the United Arab Emirates.

It says, provide notarized photocopies unless stated otherwise.

So from the looks of it, the marriage certificate and my wife's birth certificate need to be notarized, but then further down it mentions to provide a photocopy of the spouse's passport copy and citizenship certificate.. I take it that would mean literally just a photocopy?

Where are you from? I am a UK passport holder and was living in the UAE when I submitted my application (and was processed through ADVO). I only sent photocopies, nothing of mine was notarised.

We provided a certified copy of ours... I didn't bother going to the consulate to have something notarised.

Aren't you supposed to send the application (sponsor & applicant) together? If so, it make sense to only include 1 copy.

@Taddy - my wife and I live in the UAE. I'm a Canadian passport holder, and my wife is from the Philippines.

@kate - we're sending both together, but my question is about if her birth certificate and our wedding certificate need to be notarized, and if the remaining documents that only say 'photocopy' need to be notarized, or just simply photocopies.

Send the certified true copies of your wife Nso birth certificate and marriage certificate as well....regarding your wifey's passport, just send the photocopy..for it to be safe and not to be lost from your visa office.anyways, when the visa is ready, then will request for the original passport for visa stamping.

It says in the Middle East instructions (we're based in the UAE), to send notarized copies, so I think we should be sending only notarized copies of her birth certificate and our marriage certificate, and I believe I need to also send my birth certificate too notarized. If you see page 3 of the Middle East guide for Immigrants, it mentions that there under Identity and Civil Status Documents.

Does this look right?

Sweet_ivy, my wife is based here in the UAE, so we'll be going by the UAE instructions. I believe the NSO documents are required for the Manila office.
