No but living off a social assistance is very difficult so it is in your best interest to try and find employment as soon as possible. It also will help the time go by because you could wait over a year without hearing anything about your file.

It will not affect the hearing. Canada's economy does not rely on refugees to improve it, nor does it get affected if refugees don't work.

However, if you find a job you will fill your time with something useful. If you don't work, you will spend most of your time thinking about your refugee claim, you will add more to your stress. It is much better if you find a job. I hope you will. If you don't find a job, try to do some volunteer work. Keep yourself busy, not only thinking about the refugee claim. The wait time is forever. Doing nothing in the meantime will not be good for your mental wellbeing.

In addition, even if you get social assistance, for sure it will not be enough to cover all of your expenses.

Look for a job and start immediately. Good luck man.

Any adult in Canada who does not working does impact Canada’s economy so if refugees do no work in Canada it does have an impact on Canada’s economy. One of the justification when there are criticism about the volume of asylum claimants and refugees is that many are young and will be able to work and add to the Canadian economy. What is different when it comes to asylum seekers and refugees is that their ability to remain in Canada is not impacted by their ability to financial support themselves, their employment status or the amount of savings they have. Whether they get approved to be able to remain in Canada is purely based on their ability to show that they are being persecuted at home and it is not safe for them to live in their home country. The goal for protected people is integration into Canadian society including working, studying, learning English and/or French and becoming financially self-sufficient.
