Does processing pause while they await your biometrics?

Hello all,
Wondering if anyone could tell me if application processing is paused while they wait for you to submit your biometrics. The nearest appointment I could find at either CVAC or USCIS ASC in the USA is more than a week away from now.

The only way to know for sure is via the GCMS notes, and as they take 30+ days, it's not that helpful.
