If someone chooses a processing office that is not their home country's because they have been lawfully admitted for more than one year in another country and then they move to another country (perhaps back to home country) what happens with the application? For example, if my husband and I choose Beijing (because we are in Mongolia) as our processing office not Singapore which is the home office for Thai Citizens then the medical test is sent to Beijing and CIC Mississauga sends all of it there and then we decided to move back to Thailand during the process and informed CIC of our change of address. Does the entire application then get transferred to Singapore thus causing major delays and setbacks OR does it continue to be processed in Beijing regardless of the move??

They don't move files because of change of addresses. The only reasons why they would move your file to another visa office would be:

- If you're not eligible to process your file in that visa office, i.e. if you requested your file to be processed in a country where you don't have legal status/have not been legally admitted for a year at least.
- If the visa office has too many cases to process, it sends your file to a "backup" visa office, to avoid delays. (I think I read this somewhere but I could be wrong)

just remember, if they do choose to interview, it will be in the country the application was sent to...

What about the interview?

The embassy responsible for applications of Thai PRs is Singapore. I don't think this means that we would have to go to Singapore for an interview.

I hope not. :o

Yes, you would have to go to Singapore if you're called for an interview :(

What the ****... I'm assuming interviews are only for special cases?

Interviews can be requested for many reasons. If they have any doubt about your relationship or even have some specific questions about any part of your application, life, background. Hopefully your interview will be waved.

Well it would actually be my wife that would need to go. My wife's side of the application has nothing fishy. Well neither does mine but I'm worried i dont have enough proof to show reason for going back to Canada.

maybe i'm mistaken, but i thought that when the processing country isn't the country the application is from (as in how sometimes a number of countries feed into one office, not when an applicant chooses a third country for other reasons), that there is some sort of arrangement at the embassy or satallite office... I could be completely wrong about this... i just remember someone on another board applying thru Port of Spain, Trinidad and i'm pretty sure they were interviewed in the birth/resident country (Greneda or Guyana, can't remember)...

do inquire with CIC as to where the interview would be if you are concerned, it *might* not be as bad as you think... but i know they will not move interview locations simply because its not convienent for you... once they are set, they are set...

Could a Senior member please confirm these 2 questions: If a person sends their application to the designated office for the country they have been lawfully admitted to for more than one year not their home country office, then moves countries(in our case back to home country) while their application is processing, the application stays in that chosen office and it not transferred to their home office? #2 Does the 'potential' interview remain in the processing office they chose and is not transferred to their home office?
So to recap our situation: Canadian wife, Thai husband. Living in Mongolia for more than one year. Discussing whether to send the application to Beijing which is the processing office for people in Mongolia. Considering moving back to Thailand while the application will still probably still be processing. Am wondering if this will delay our application, wondering if the 'potential' interview would remain in Beijing even we were living in Thailand. If it didn't delay the application then we are talking about a massive potential difference in processing times between the Singapore and Beijing office.

If the application is processed in Beijing, the interview will be in Beijing.
For applications processed in Singapore: Singapore processes apps from several countries, and for interviews they do sometimes hold them in the applicant's country. This depends on the visa office - some visa offices that process apps from several countries hold all interviews in the main visa office; others will do interviews in the other countries.

Thaihubbie, if you are seriously considering moving back to Thailand during processing, it might be better to go through Singapore. The visa officer can send an application to be processed at a different embassy if he/she thinks it is warranted, even if the applicant has been lawfully admitted for a year, so they might end up sending the application to Singapore anyway, even if you do opt for Beijing.
