Hi everyone,

I am a permanent resident of Canada and have been here for almost one year. Now, I just heard if I marry someone from my original country and bring him here to Canada, I have to wait until he also reaches the 3 year in country presence to be able to apply for my own citizenship too. Is this right ? does it mean, I will lose the ( 1 year + another year until he comes ) just because I have got marred and everything will be counted from the beginning towards my citizenship??

Please advice me

Cheers

No - marriage doesn't delay citizenship. Go ahead and get married - and go ahead and apply for citizenship. You will not lose any of your residence years for citizenship by getting married.

Ok, Thanks for your reply :) Another question please, I heard if you marry a citizen of Canada, and he decided to live somewhere else outside here , you can stay with him and apply for your citizenship too, which means you do not have to stay in Canada for three years to get your passport, how true is this one ?/

No - that's not correct.

To obtain Canadian citizenship, you must first become a PR and then you must live in Canada three years out of a four year period. Having a Canadian citizen spouse changes nothing.
