I received an email from CIC stating that my application (i applied for citizenship) has been placed in a que for assessment by a senior officer because of a policy or legaslative issue pertaining to the case? Anybody have a clue what this means?

When did you apply? Was there anything unusual about your application? How many days did you have, etc. ?

I applied in April 2014, they received my application in July 2014 and started processing it in the August so its been well over a year. Im not sure if its an unusal application but i applied for citizenship through my dad (my grandfather was born there. My dad was a citizen of Canada when i was born. Im not sure what you mean by "how many days did i have"?

Sounds like they are trying to determine whether you qualify or not.

Most people here apply to become citizens based on their physical residence in Canada for a number of days.
You didn't say that you didn't, so I assumed that was your case too.

As you can tell, Citizenship by Descent gets confusing. It depends on when you were born, when your parent(s) was born, and various changes to the law over the years. Its not surprising that CIC might need a senior person to review it. Still, it shouldn't take over a year to get a decision. However, CIC hasn't been known for expedient client service the last several years. It might take a little noise to get the ball rolling.

Have you considered consulting with an actual citizenship/immigration lawyer in Canada to determine if you actually qualify? It might be worth the $150 consultation fee to get an expert answer more quickly than CIC will give you.

Thanks, i really think i need to get hold of an immigration lawyer. Can they also help to speed up the process once you have applied? I wonder why my application is taking so long :(
