Does anyone know what happens during the "in process" stage?

Just wondering if anyone has information regarding the in process stage. My application under common-law is currently "in process" stage 2. I received a few decelerations to sign and I am making a bunch of assumptions based on that. What do they do while your application is "in process" I assume that this is when they do the background checks etc? Also assuming that based on the request to sign declarations for my unaccompaning children, that the process should be close to complete. I'm thinking that they wouldn't ask me to sign and notarized documents which they created unless they have progressed pretty far into everything else. Anyone have any thoughts?

Thank you,

When processing your application they do 2 different kinds of background checks, review your relationship proof, sometimes call for an interview, health branch makes a decision on your medical exams, sometimes you are asked to do another one if it is getting close to expiring. They'll go through all of your documents and you'll get request for more information if they need it.

However, some people get their PPR without ever seeing their ecas change to 'in progress' so it's still hard to determine exactly where they are at with your application. Only way to know for sure is to order GCMS notes.

Thanks, we ordered notes 2 days before the application went "in process", we then received the notes 30 days later and there was nothing in the notes related to anything in stage 2. It only had two notes entries for stage 1. A bit weird really.

I can't really help much with your questions. I am also currently "in process". Have you ordered notes yet?

Depending on which visa office is working on your file, this timeline can be completely normal. "In Process" basically means an office picked up your application and is now working on it. There can still be months left for you in the process. At this point, all you can do is wait for communicaiton from CIC or order your case notes to see if they have any insight into how your application is going.

What are the details on the background checks? The reason I ask is that as my fiance is working in Singapore, she is an Indonesian citizen, so we know there will be extra work (and time) involved already.

I think they conduct additional backgrounds checks based on countries the applicant has lived in. I have lived in quite a few and had to provide 3 different police certificates so expect that to take some time too. I'm not sure how far they go but I am sure that they request information related to the applicant from countries where the applicant has lived.

That makes sense. I was just curious about the comment made earlier about CIC doing "2 different kinds of background checks". What that entails, I don't know, but as there are now multiple jurisdictions, it will just add the time.

The crappy part about al lthis is just that - the extra time away from the one person you want and need to be with... ***sigh***

Thank you for your response my papers are being processed in manila office. Will try to order notes to further know what is happening. Im just quite anxious because there were no emails sent to me for PPR add reqs etc that most of the applicants go thru the process. I just hope evrything is doing fine in my application.
