Does a minor child need a medical exam?

We’ve applied for our son’s study permit in Feb 2020. He is a minor(sixteen years old) . All documents have been submitted including biometrics and custodian form. Does he need a medical exam? I can’t seem to find any information about this. If he does need one can we do an e- medical as we’ve not heard anything from the VO yet..covid delays.
Getting worried as school starts in sept and I’m sure it will take more time to issue study permit if medical is also required. We’re aware of quarantine requirements and the fact that we’re not eligible for travel yet regardless.
We’ve applied from Pakistan ( visa office Abu Dhabi ).
