Dear All,
We are planning our marriage with my Canadian fiance in Montreal this October and after that we would like to start the sponsorship-immigration process so that we can be together at last (I would like to apply for my process outside Canada). We started getting all the necessary papers for the marriage, and we are about to submit them soon, but there is one thing that really bothers me. I would like to add the family name of my fiance to my family name at the marriage. If I do this, will I have to have our marriage registered in my home country (Hungary)? I am asking this because my passport will still contain my before-marriage name and it takes about two months to have the Canadian marriage registered in Hungary. Without registering the marriage in my home country, Hungary won't issue me a passport with my after-marriage name and I am afraid that this might cause a confusion for the authorities when applying for immigration to Canada.
Or can I keep my maiden name and skip the registering at my home country and apply for the immigration rightaway and apply for a name change and register my marriage at the Hungarian embassy in Ottawa later when we are together? Does the Canadian marriage which is acknowledged by Canada has to be registered at my home country at all in order to be able to start the immigration process?
I don't want to spend an extra two month in Hungary above the time that I will have to wait until my immigration application is approved and processed and until I get my permanent resident status, so I really need your help and I would really appreciate it. Thank you in advance.
