Hello,

I've applied for Canadian citizenship and received an acknowledgement of receipt 3 months after sending my application in.

I realized while applying my passport still had a validity of 9 months. It's now down to 6 months and have applied for a new passport from my country of origin through my home embassy here in Canada.

Do I need to report to CIC with new information about my new passport? If so, how do I go by doing this? The reason why I applied to renew my passport is because it's encouraged to have a passport with at least 6 months validity remaining. Thanks.

You don't have to provide IRCC with the information about the new passport until you're asked for it.

I agree to this. I renewed mine 6 months after I submitted the application. Was never asked about it until during the interview - even then the agent just wanted to see the bio page. Unless they specifically ask you for that, no need to provide them the info.

Thank you guys for your reply to my thread. Just wanted to make sure of this so there wouldn’t be any sort of processing delays or otherwise. From what I’ve seen on CIC’s website they are very behind on processing applications as is.
