Hi. I am MBBS doctor from Pakistan. Currently i am doing my residency in Gynae/Obs in Pakistan. My husband is in canada. I have read all the procedure in MCC website for medical degree verification and ECA. I wanted to ask is it necessary for ECA to source verify your medical transcript and your internship certificates along side your medical degree or just source verifying medical degree will do the job? As source verifying each document adds to the cost.
Also if i complete my residency here in Pak will i be able to practise as a gynae/OBs in canada?
What are the chances of getting residency in this field or any other after clearing licensing exams??
I am 27 years old already. I dont wanna waste my time if i can save it.

You will need to pass the licensing exams and then try and secure a residency and redo your 5 yr residency. Securing a residency is the most difficult part for IMGs because there are a limited number of spots left after the Canadian graduates match to a residency program. There are also a large number of applicants for a small number of residencies. You can search online to see what residencies went unmatched for the past few years. In general leftover spots tend to be in smaller centres so if you are able to secure a residency your husband may need to relocate. Mostly GP residencies, pathology, psychiatry, public health because they tend to be less popular residencies. Assume you don’t speak French so that will also eliminate the residencies in Quebec. Any IMG moving to Canada must realize that they may not be able to practice medicine in Canada. At least as a young person you have a better chance than older doctors because residency programs want to make sure they are training doctors who will practice for decades.
