Does one need to wait for the PR Card to be mailed before you can apply for Health Insurance in Alberta? Or does the COPR document suffice?

Registration validation requirements for completing an application for Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan coverage
All permanent residents of Alberta must register themselves and their dependants with the Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan. A permanent Alberta resident is a person who has the legal right to remain in Canada, makes Alberta his/her permanent home, and is present in Alberta at least six months a year.

In order to process an Application for Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan Coverage, you must include photocopies (front and back, if applicable) of documents proving:

Alberta residency;
Identity; and
Legal entitlement to be in Canada.

Use a Canada entry document - COPR.

Call them to check.

It says must be in alberta six months a year (not the LAST six months).

You can apply right away

My husband applied for Alberta Healthcare two days after he landed with just his COPR, passport and our utility bills. :) Coverage started the day he landed.

I also applied using my CORP, although haven't received my card yet.

I've heard of people getting Alberta healthcare with just a visitor's stamp... they're one of the more lax provinces when it comes to that, it seems.
