Hello Seniors,

I got the ITA in the last draw on 24 march.

Have few critical questions

I got married in dec last year, but me and my wife have not updated our passports yet. Do I need to update them to show our marital status? would this change in passport numbers after ITA be a problem?

Secondly, we both are working in Bangalore since past two years, do we need a police clearance certificate from here. Our passports currently have our hometown addresses (Delhi for my wife and Punjab for me)

Any quick help would be highly appreciated

not necessary to update passports but if you add spouses name, passport will be reissued and the existing passport will be canceled.

go to the nearest PSK

Any quick help would be highly appreciated

Most countries don't actually show your spouse's details on the passport. So as advised, I also don't think its necessary.

Indian passports need spouses name on the passport.

Interesting. So does CIC not accept your passport if your spouse's details are not mentioned?

Indians need to submit their passports for PCC as the PCC is issued on a paper and stamped on the passport. Without the spouses name, getting the PCC can be a challenge. If there is no PCC, CIC will reject the application.

Not having spouse name on Passport does not make any difference for getting PCC (based on my personal experience.)

1. To get Indian PCC, spouse name on passport is not a necessity.
2. To prove that you are married, An original marriage certificate is enough.

I have my wife's name on my passport and my wife has my name on her passport. The back of the passport has a field for spouses name in addition to parents names. We got our passports reissued after marriage. I have seen other some country passports and havent seen spouses names.

Yep. There is a Row for Spouse name.
But, I haven't heard or read on any forum where it s mentioned a MANDATE to have your spouse name for an Indian PCC to be issued.

I see. And I read mixed responses.
I am currently in the USA. Neither me/my spouse have each other's names in the spouse row.
We are planning to get the Indian PCC form the consulate by attaching Marriage certificate which many seniors mentioned was completely ok.
Now, your post has kept me thinking otherwise.

I think the problem is only in India. My wife and I got our PCCs from the Indian High Commission in London through VFS. We had to take our passports, photographs, copy of proof of UK address and UK visa. My wife and I went on different dates to VFS as well. We did not submit marriage certificate and we were not even asked for it.

My wife hasnt taken my surname after marriage. We have each others names on the passports as we are more likely to carry our passport with us rather than our marriage certificates in case we are asked to prove our marriage.
