Do I qualify for 0213: Computer and Information Systems Managers?

Hi Guys,

Need some help. I have over 67 points for the Canadian Immigration for the Skilled worker program, however I'm unsure whether I am eligible or not. A little help would be most appreciated.

I am an Executive Producer (Senior Manager) in a Game and application development studio in Pakistan with over 2 years of work experience in this field where I have led several projects leading a team of engineers, graphic designers and game designers developing iPhone, iPad and Facebook applications. My 4-year Bachelors degree however is in Social Sciences (Political Science), and not Computer Science.

My total work experience is over 3 years.

"manager, computer application development"


So do I qualify for: "0213: Computer and Information Systems Managers"?

Also, can I call some department in Canada to check?

Any help would be appreciated.

Please share role & responsibility in detail (point wise); they analyse the duties to determine the eligibility.

This is my personal opinion. These duties are missing on some of the responsibilities like
Meeting with customers to discuss requirements
Control Budget
Make policies


Also your total experience and education does not back your claim.

I will suggest to see if your duties can be rephrased to match the ones mentioned in 0213

Hi,

I have also applied for the same category. I think you do qualify for it because your education and experience is not necessorly required to be in same field. What is most important is that you have bachelors degree and your experience is in the field in which you are claming the points. This scenario is very common in IT field. However, I would also recommand you (if you can) to add the missing duties to your experience.

Anikt, I did meet clients, handled production budgets, planned overall strategy for the company and helped formulate general as well as specific policies. Thanks for pointing that out.

Imran, what else do you think I should add?

I also led the business development wing of the company. I am not so sure if that would be beneficial for my case. Comments?

I meant that the 0213 description say that you need several years of exp. You have about 3 years which may not be convincing and added to that you did not mention the job duties that highlighted. So there were chances of concluding that you were not doinf manager's duty

But if you add the job duties it will better support your case

Any more job duties that will strengthen my case. I actually play multiple roles and hence wear multiple hats in the company. I joined the company when it was a start-up (about 5-6 people then) and now we're about 40 people (not counting 6 interns) and growing. I directly lead the development of 2-4 products i.e. games every month and also am the Director of Business Development.

Also, is it a wise idea to hire a lawyer? Are there any services which offer help to better position and strengthen the case?

Lawyer can not give you any special help, but can help you to verify papers and organize the APplication process

Hi,
I dont want to disappoint you, I only want to share my experience.
My husband academic qualification was B.Com and he had one year diploma in computer science.
He had 4 years experience of teahing in IT college. He applied under 1431 category, but his application was refuesed. The reason was "academic qualification didn't match with experience".

That's alright. A lot of people in the gaming industry are not from Computer Sciences backgrounds, especially those who are managers. But they lead a team of engineers.
